MECHANICS OF BREATHING 3.0

HOW THE BIOMECHANICS AND PHYSIOLOGY OF BREATH CAN IMPROVE SLEEP APNEA, TEETH GRINDING, JAW TENSION, TMJ ISSUES AND MORE

AN UPDATED ONLINE TRAINING

January 15 - March 20, 2024

WHEN YOU THINK OF SLEEP APENA WHAT COMES TO MIND . . .

  • CPAP machines.

  • Stopped breathing during sleep.

  • Abrupt awakenings accompanied by gasping.

  • Awakening with a dry mouth or sore throat.

  • Excessive daytime sleepiness.

  • Snoring.

  • Morning headaches

  • Difficulty concentrating during the day.

HOW ABOUT NIGHT TIME TEETH GRINDING?

Oftentimes it is the intense gnashing sound of the upper and lower teeth, or intense jaw gripping.

MOST PEOPLE - INCLUDING YOUR CLIENTS - DON'T UNDERSTAND HOW THEIR BODY IMPACTS THEIR BREATHING

There is often an assumption that a client doesn't want to do the work needed to make the change.

As a result, most people get a diagnosis and the conversation stops.

A CPAP machine is provided, a mouthpiece is provided.

And while both are effective and supportive (there is truly nothing wrong with either), so much change can occur if we can also address the body and how the body breathes.

It is possible to move beyond the belief that "this is just my body."

Your body can change.

Your breathing can change.

YOUR BREATHING IS IMPACTED BY YOUR BODY'S MOBILITY AND STABILITY.

When you inhale air into your body, your rib cage is supposed to expand, and your diaphragm and pelvic floor are meant to move downward.

On exhale the opposite is meant to happen.

However, if the muscles or connective tissue around your ribs, neck, abdomen or pelvis are limited, so will the mechanics of your breathing.

You won't breathe as well as you could.

Not only can this impact the position of your airway, and in turn impact night time teeth grinding and sleep apnea, it can also can limit your ability to digest food, and feel calm or resilient.

THE PRACTICE IS SIMPLE AND STRAIGHTFORWARD.

There are 3 key things to learn:

  • Understand the Anatomy of your Body as It Relates to Breathing. Knowledge is power. Plain and simple. Learn from me, a biomechanics expert, along with my dentist who has decades of experience helping people with airway issues.

  • Practice. Intervene with specific exercises and techniques. Become familiar with how you breathe and how you can implement change.

  • Evaluation. See what changes you experience how they change

HOW I HELP

I have a B.Sc. Kinesiology and have helped people improve the relationship between their body and breath since 1995 and have been training yoga teachers and health professionals how to do the same since 2001.

  • I see what works and doesn't

  • I continually evolve to help bring about better and better results

  • I teach my graduates how to grow yoga businesses they love

I want to help you grow your skill and ability to help others harness the simple power of their breath.

HOW DR. LARRY STANLEIGH HELPS

Dr. Larry Stanleigh is my dentist. Not only is he brilliant at helping people with jaw, head, neck tension, he is a very funny man who is also highly skilled at teaching. (Scroll down for his full bio).
What I love about him the most is whole body view the body, mouth, jaw. He will not "just give a mouth piece" if he sees that there is something else impacting airway mechanics.

CHECK OUT WHAT OTHERS ARE SAYING ABOUT SUSI AND DR LARRY

I’ve been practicing all the principles + after doing a 60-90 minute practices all week + moving w/ease + breath, I feel like I’ve just been moving + breathing, I don’t feel like I’ve “practiced.” Prior to this course usually something is hurting, strained, overused, but I’ve interpreted it as “I’ve worked out.” It’s just so strange to go thru my day + night “pain free” …..that I feel like I haven’t “done” anything….so my brain is catching up with the novelty that I can do a strong practice + not feel pain. AND I am making progress in areas where I was weak /tight/both or lacked mobility. Hope you understand what I’m saying, it’s just plain weird to not have twinges, tension during or after “practice.”

- Lisa

Larry is brilliant at presenting content in a captivating way! He can take ancient philosophical theories and make them relevant to modern-day situations, presenting in a way that anyone can understand!”

- Blake Hadley, My Social Practice

YOU WILL LEARN:

  • How to improve your breathing.

  • The relationship of your breathing and sleep apnea and teeth grinding.

  • The relationship between breathing and better sleep

  • The relationship between your breathing, pelvic floor function and your jaw/skull.

CHECK OUT WHAT OTHERS ARE SAYING ABOUT SUSI

I was one of those teachers who thought pain was normal. After learning from Susi, I felt different - almost weird - because I had no pain.

- Collette

Susi is an exceptional coach. If you want to work with one of the best, if you want to work with someone who really wants you to succeed, if you want to work with someone who truly walks the walk and talks the talk, work with Susi. She really knows what she is doing.

Meet Dr. Larry Stanleigh

Larry is a dentist like none other I have met. Here is his bio.

I have enjoyed General Practice Dentistry for over 30 years. The broad scope of what I have to know and do suits my personality well. Success is based on the relationships we build, and we can only build relationships in health care that are based on trust. These are the building blocks to ensuring I help you achieve health that is comfortable, affordable and long lasting.

My primary focus in dentistry today is the examination, diagnosis and treatment of orofacial pain and TMJ dysfunction primarily from trauma, but general practice dentistry is still the foundation upon which I am able to do everything else.

Outside of dentistry, I am married to Tina and I have two amazing daughters. I am a keynote speaker, I work with the worlds elite athletes to improve sports performance, am an award winning writer/blogger, voice actor in the comedy podcast “No Shirt, No Shoes, Pants Optional”, producer of a graphic novel project “USNA: United States of North America” (usna.ca), sponsor the High School Theater sports Championship at Loose Moose Theater, avid science fiction and fantasy fan, and love to run, cycle, ski and be outside.

THIS IS FOR YOU IF:

  • You want to help yourself of your clients with breathing and you want to be able to get back to your practice with strength, fluidity, and ease. You are looking for a way that works.

  • You want less fluff and more therapeutic benefit, so you can recover and get on with living.

  • You are ready for some usable techniques and tools to change, harness, and channel your strengths.

THIS IS NOT FOR YOU IF:

  • You don't think change is possible

  • If you only follow science-based evidence. Clinical studies are fascinating as they shed light and ask good questions. I see them as the start of a conversation, not the end.

  • If your schedule is packed from morning to night, this may not be the right fit at this moment.
